Fortunately for you, the Ambassadors made a video to simplify the concept of the Freshman Academy. Just click play!
How do sports work?
The majority of sports meet during school hours. Swimming, golf, and tennis leave campus the last period of the day to practice at their required locations. Almost all sports require additional practice outside of normal school hours.
Is there a rule for backpacks? or a specification for a particular kind such as mesh?
There is not a code for back packs at all. Buy any kind of back pack you would like.
What is break, and how does it work?
PHS has a ten minute break each morning sometime during second period, depending on where your classroom is located on campus. During break, you can talk to your friends, buy food at the school store, study, or just take a moment to relax.
How many kids are typically in each class?
In a typical general class, the class size ranges from 25 to 30 kids. Honors and Advanced Placement typically have 25 students or fewer.
When do clubs meet?
Since school starts at 7:55, most clubs meet before school; however, some meet after school. It varies on a club to club basis. For example, Beta Club meets at 7:20 a.m., whereas Model United Nations meets at 6 p.m.
What is the Mane?
The mane is our cafeteria! When you walk in the front doors of the school and turn right, you will see the serving area and, further down the hall, the Mane itself.
What is Freshman Friday, and how do I survive?
Freshman Friday is when upperclassmen "can" new freshmen on the first Friday of the school year. DO NOT BE SCARED! Upperclassman typically only bother freshmen they know, such as their siblings, and the "canning" is nothing serious. If you feel you are being bullied or excessively bothered by an upperclassman, tell one of the administrators, and they will handle it. BUT DO NOT BE SCARED! Nobody gets injured. Freshman Friday sounds terrible, but it is no big deal.
What's that building next to Prattville High School?
That's the Autauga County Technology Center, or "ATC" building. It is a completely different school than PHS, but almost every student at PHS will have taken at least one ATC class by the end of their high school career. The school offers a variety of courses including web design, cosmetology, auto-repair, and business.

What's the difference between the copy center and the student center?
The copy center is next to the lunch room, and it is where teachers drop off and pick up their copies. If a teacher ever sends you to "pick up their box," this is where you will go. It also serves as a school store with apparel, school supplies, and snacks. The student center is adjacent to the front office, and it is where students check in and out.
What is Java Jungle?
It is a coffee shop located in the library/media center where you can get your morning cup of joe between the hours of 7:30-7:55. They also sell hot chocolate, cookies, and more. You will sometimes find that they are open throughout the school day, but you will need a pass to go outside of the above hours.
What's the check out and check in procedure?
- To check out, a parent either has to come to the school and sign you out or send a note to check out. Parents can't call the school to excuse you.
- The note is usually used for kids who have their own cars, so their parents won't have to drive all the way to PHS to check them out.
- Go to the Student Center (not the copy center which is by the Mane) to check out. Sign the "Sign Out" sheet that is on the counter, and make sure an aide stamps
your card and returns it to you before you leave.
- To check in, you just have to go to the Student Center and sign the "Sign In" sheet that is sitting on the counter. There is no need for a parent to come in with you. An aide will issue you a pass/check in card for your teachers. Don't leave the student center without it.
- One of your parents or legal gardians has to sign the yellow card.
- You have three days to turn in the yellow card to the Student Center between the hours of 7:00 to 7:45 a.m.
Why is there toilet paper all over the trees on the first day of school?
Every school has their own traditions, and this is one of Prattville High School's. Every year, the rising Senior class stays at the school all night to make sure every nook and cranny of the PHS campus is covered in toilet paper. Maybe there's a story behind how this originated, but nobody's told us yet.
What is STI? What is INOW?
STI or INOW is an online account that allows you or your parents to check your grades.
What are AP classes? What's the difference between AP and Honors?
AP stands for Advanced Placement. AP classes are much more difficult than honors classes because AP classes are taught at a college level to prepare you for, as you can guess, college. Honors classes are advanced but are taught at an advanced high school level.
What is "the Indoor"?
The indoor is where varsity athletics does its indoor training, hence the name " the indoor." The actual green-turf room is called the Indoor, and the Lion's Den and the offices of the coaches and trainers is called the Field House. Sometimes people also call the whole building, which includes both the Indoor, the offices, and the Lion's Den, the Field House.
What is the Lion's Den?
The Lion's Den is in the field house, not the Indoor, where Varsity Athletics' indoor training is held, hence the name "the Indoor." The Lion's Den is pretty much another student store that sells sweatshirts, hoodies, class t-shirts, football tickets, and everything else that bares the PHS logo.
What is our mascot, and what is that weird P thing stamped on shirts, posters, and the walls?
We are the Prattville Lions! The Kings of the Jungle! Our School Logo is called the Power P. The outline of the lion and lion's ear forms the P. An AP Art student somewhere along the way decided PHS needed a logo to set us apart from every other Lion in the country. It stuck, and now it's hard to imagine PHS without it!
